Abstract:
The North Auckland Peninsula extends for about 200 miles from Auckland to North Cape and at its widest is no more than 60 miles across. The eastern coastline is indented by numerous inlets and bays, while the Kaipara and Hokianga Harbours on the west coast penetrate far inland. Much of the region is below 500 ft, although the central uplands exceed 2,000 ft in places. The proximity to the sea of all parts of a hilly region lying in subtropical latitudes gives a climate characterised by warm, humid summers, relatively mild winters, and a plentiful rainfall
