Abstract:
A method has been developed for studying variations in oxygen 18 and sulphur 34 in sulphates using the same specimen for the preparation of carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide for mass spectrometry. A reference is given that describes details of the methods. We have studied O-18 enrichment in sulphates from several sources and attempted to show correlations between sulphate oxygen and the water in which the sulphate existed. Results are shown in figures 1 and 2. Results confirm the known stability of the sulphate oxygen. This paper shows some clear correlations between O-18 and S-34 variations both within and between different types of sulphate. The extent to which biochemical, chemical and physical processes are involved in such distributions requires further detailed studies
